Labour yesterday released its women's issues policy, which aims to recognise women's specific concerns in the areas of health and well-being, work-life balance and economic sustainability.
Paid parental leave will go from 13 to 14 weeks in December and self-employed mothers will be eligible from next July.
Labour will also work with industry to encourage family-friendly workplaces; make it easier for parents and carers to move in and out of the workforce; and provide tax relief to an extra 60,000 working families from April 2006 under its Working for Families package.
