The Labour Party has paid tribute to New Zealand military personnel serving around the world and has remembered those who died on battlefields at Gallipoli nearly a century ago.
"Today we come together as a nation to remember the sacrifice made by so many Kiwis who have lost their lives defending our country," Labour leader David Shearer said.
"For our military personnel, it's not just a case of doing their duty. It's about serving their country, protecting our people, playing our part internationally and preserving the freedoms we all enjoy here at home. We thank them for their commitment."
Mr Shearer also paid tribute to the 10 New Zealand soldiers who died serving with the SAS and provincial reconstruction team in Afghanistan.
"Their contribution and all those who served will never be forgotten by the Afghan people whose lives have been touched by their service and dedication," he said.
