Labour finally to settle bill

Labour is ready to pay back the more than $800,000 of taxpayer money that the Auditor-General found it unlawfully spent at the last election - leaving only United Future and New Zealand First to settle their accounts.

Prime Minister Helen Clark last night confirmed that Labour would pay the money, probably this week.

She said the decision was finalised at the party's council meeting at the weekend.
