Kyoko Kawahata, 20, from Japan had only been in New Zealand one day when the earthquake struck on February 22, 2011.
She was staying with Elaine Newton of Christchurch and was "keen to get into the New Zealand lifestyle".
Kyoko was studying in the CTV building when it collapsed.
