Kurariki facing charges relating to girlfriend

New Zealand's youngest convicted killer was back in court yesterday charged with damaging his girlfriend's property and also faces a domestic violence charge.

They are just two of a string of offences Bailey Junior Kurariki, 20, has allegedly committed since being released from prison in May last year for the 2001 manslaughter of Auckland pizza delivery driver Michael Choy.

The latest incident involves him allegedly damaging a stereo system, DVD player and bathroom accessories belonging to Janie Martin, who he has previously been jailed for assaulting.

He appeared briefly on one charge of wilful damage at the Manukau District Court yesterday and was bailed to an Otara address to reappear in the family violence court on November 9. He was told not to consume alcohol or drugs.

He has not yet entered a plea.

Kurariki is due back in court today charged with breaching supervision, on Thursday on a domestic violence charge and on November 24 charged with breaching his community work.

Kurariki was 12 when he was one of six people involved in the killing of Mr Choy, who was delivering pizzas. He was released under strict parole conditions, four months before his seven-year sentence was due to end.

Two people received life sentences for the murder while the remaining three were jailed for between 8 and 12 years.
