Kuranui College first XV skipper Matt Gain is confident of a bold showing from his side when they meet Naenae College seconds in the Wellington premier four secondary schoolboys rugby competition final at Rongotai on Saturday.
Naenae will be favourites after Kuranui blew a 9-0 lead last time the teams met but Gain says there is no chance of that happening again. "We went to sleep [in that game] and paid the penalty," he said.
Gain respects the size and speed of Naenae's outside backs, and he is expecting them to play an expansive style of rugby.
"They will run the ball at us and we will need to make the tackles count, we have to keep the pressure on them," he said.
Gain says Kuranui have a potential match winner in leading try-scorer winger Connor Henare but they were more likely to focus on having their allround strengths pave the way for victory. "We have got good depth in the [squad], we will be looking to work as a team rather than a group of individuals."
