Work begins this weekend on designing a replacement for the Kopu Bridge outside Thames.
Transit New Zealand says it will begin geotechnical investigations of the Waihou River as it prepares to start designing a two-lane bridge.
Transit Hamilton project manager John Hannah says the 500m-long bridge will be built slightly upstream from the existing one with 2.4km of associated road works.
