A stirring solo ride by scratch rider Ben Knight was the highlight of a graded road race staged by Athletics and Cycling Masterton's cycling section around three laps of the Carrington circuit - 36km in total - on Tuesday night.
Knight broke away from his co-markers early and maintained a strong pace throughout to record the fastest time of the night, 58min 17s.
Weather conditions were somewhat different from that experienced in previous weeks and there was some thought given to cancelling the event because of the rain but fortunately it cleared and the southerly wind actually assisted the riders as they headed up Haringa Road.
Times were: Ben Knight 58.17, John Chesmar 1.00.56, Jeff Saywell 1.00.56, Mike Sutton 1.00.57, Darren Southon 1.01.02, Simon Butler 1.01.07, Brett Tulloch 1.01.07, Dave Drummond 1.01.39, Grant Burkhart 1.08.30, Dave Howden 1.06.31, Anthony Morris 1.08.31, Andrew Curtis-Cody 1.08.33, Douglas Maclachlan 1.08.33, Dave Hodder 1.08.34, Diane Chesmar 1.13.51, Jenna Mangin 1.13.51, Anil Rman 1.20.55.
