A 14-year-old has turned himself in to police after a boy was threatened at knifepoint over a rugby trading card.
Detective Sergeant Glenn Williams of Wellington CIB said a nine-year-old was confronted by the older boy at a primary school in suburban Miramar about 5pm on Wednesday.
The teenager was armed with a knife and demanded a Super 14 rugby card from the victim.
Mr Williams said yesterday members of the public had called police identifying the suspect following publicity about the incident.
"His own parents contacted police and identified their son. They brought him in and he was spoken to at length and admitted all the things that happened."
Mr Williams praised the people who had helped identify the boy, and said the victim was also pleased.
"The victim and his family are very pleased that the youth responsible has been located and dealt with, and it is pleasing that he turned himself in," Mr Williams said.
He said the boy had been referred to police youth aid.
