A man is recovering in hospital after surgery overnight to remove a knife embedded in his head just behind the eyeball.
The blade penetrated nearly halfway through the 20-year-old Christchurch man's head.
Police said he had been in his own home when a house party turned violent early yesterday morning.
He was stabbed just behind the eye with a 90mm knife.
This morning a spokeswoman for the Canterbury District Health Board said the man was in a stable condition in a ward at Christchurch Hospital.
