The 27-year-old Somalian man who was shot by police on Thursday after a double stabbing and hostage drama in Christchurch is in a stable condition in Christchurch Hospital.
Yesterday he was in an induced coma and was yet to be charged by police after he allegedly held a woman hostage before repeatedly stabbing a Christchurch City Council worker.
The armed man was only stopped when pepper sprayed, tasered and then shot in the shoulder and wrist by a female police officer.
The man, who has not yet been named, was under police guard in the intensive care unit at Christchurch Hospital and was not expected to wake up until tomorrow.
A hospital spokeswoman this morning said he was in a stable condition but could not comment on whether he was still in an induced coma.
