A Nelson man abused and pulled a knife on parking wardens after seeing his partner's car being ticketed.
Douglas Harley Lamond, 24, labourer, appeared in Nelson District Court this week having earlier admitted charges of theft, resisting arrest, possessing an offensive weapon and disorderly behaviour.
Judge Tony Zohrab said the last three charges related to an incident in June when Lamond saw his partner's car being ticketed by a parking warden.
"You objected to that, and confronted the wardens and abused them."
Lamond pulled a knife during the incident and police were called, the judge said.
"Parking wardens are entitled to be protected and to go about their jobs without being confronted with people like yourself."
Judge Zohrab sentenced Lamond to 100 hours' community work and six months' supervision.
He also ordered Lamond to undertake a stop violence programme and pay $50 for emotional harm to the victim of his theft.
