A New Zealand short film with its own Alice in Wonderland is being screened as part of the Cannes Film Festival in May.
After Wonderland, produced by University of Auckland film graduate Linda Darby, is a 10-minute film about 16-year-old only child Alice and her oddball family during the 1960s. It will be shown in the digital film library and small theatres as part of its selection for the Cannes Short Film Corner.
Darby, who is the arts co-ordinator at Pakuranga College, has a Bachelor of Arts with honours in screen production and a Master of Arts in directing drama from Auckland University. She first began creating short films five years ago.
"A film is a collaborative effort of the cast and crew which is evident in this success for After Wonderland," she said. "We are very honoured to be representing New Zealand as part of this global collection."
Short films chosen for the festival's official selection are due to be announced later this month.
