Kiwis share their 'struggle' of being stuck in Bali

While the rest of New Zealand shivers with cold and wraps up for rain, the lucky Kiwis who have had flights home from Bali delayed are sharing their pictures of the 'struggle' of being stuck in Bali.

While many holidaymakers have shared tales of frustrating phone calls with airlines that have little information about when they'll be able to leave, others have posted photos on social media about making the most of the extra days of vacation - many with the #stuckinbali hashtag.

New Zealand graphic designer Madeline Tiarne has been soaking up the sun on her additional days of holiday, posting a photo of her sunbathing on a lounger at a resort in Seminyak, Bali.

On Twitter, Ms Tiarne said: "Might be stuck in Bali because of the silly volcano but making the most of it".

She said this morning she was happy to be heading home.

Sandi Hasleham of Auckland said she was "living the dream" to be #stuckinbali and shared a picture of a beautiful sunset at a beach.

Major airlines have resumed flights after clouds of gritty ash billowing from an Indonesian volcano scuppered travel plans for thousands of passengers.

Air New Zealand flight NZ246 arrived in Auckland this morning after leaving Denpasar, Bali.

Virgin and Jetstar have also resumed flights from the island.

Bali's airport at Denpasar was closed for days as clouds of gritty ash - potentially hazardous to airline jet engines - spewed from Mount Ruang in eastern Java as it erupted on July 2.

Jetstar resumed services yesterday, flying stranded passengers out of Bali as the safety threat from the ash cloud abated.
