Donations from Kiwis have been trickling in to help the victims of the Queensland floods.
In just over 24 hours, more than $5000 was donated to two major funds set up by the New Zealand Red Cross and ANZ Banking Group.
The Red Cross fund was opened on Wednesday evening and by last night had received about $2000 in online donations.
"It's still early days at this stage and it's only been 24 hours. I'm sure when the ball gets rolling we'll see much more coming in," said spokesman Paul Scoringe.
"We've also had a number of cheques and generous pledges which we don't include [until] they have been cashed."
Contributions made to the Australian Floods Fund will go to the Australian Red Cross to help it evacuate victims, run welfare centres and do door-to-door checks on people.
It will also go to giving advice on cleaning up, and helping victims with trauma.
The ANZ Group set up a donation account yesterday and had raised about $2000 in flood relief from its staff and the public.
"Our sympathies are with our neighbours across the Tasman and we know that New Zealanders are keen to help in any way they can," ANZ chief officer David Hisco said.
Any sum can be donated to the account but contributions of more than $5 will be eligible for tax rebates. People with any bank can give money, at any ANZ or National Bank branch or online.
