A magnitude 3.8 earthquake shook Wellington this evening, with residents saying their homes were rattled by the sharp jolt.
The earthquake struck 15 km south-east of Lower Hutt at 5.17pm and 7km deep, according to Geo Net.
NZ Civil Defence tweeted that there was a short, sharp wobble, but everyone is doing okay.
Kiwis posted on Twitter sharing their disbelief that the earthquake was "light".
