KEY POINTS:
Almost two-thirds of New Zealanders want the Easter trading ban retained.
Research New Zealand surveyed 500 people to find out whether they thought shops should be open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Director Emanuel Kalafatelis says only 32 per cent of those polled want the law to change. He says he is surprised by the results, as people are now used to weekend trading.
He admitted that the results might reflect the fact that women tend to be more conservative and appreciate the fact retail workers need time off.
When the figures were broken down, it was revealed that more men than women want to be able to go shopping on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Seventy-three per cent of women want to retain the current Easter trading rules, compared with 54 per cent of men.
In the past week, the Government ruled out any changes to Easter trading legislation.
