Kiwi who skipped bail in Singapore hands himself in

Former Junior Tall Black Robert Stephen Dahlberg - who has been on the run after skipping on his $24,000 bail last year while facing charges of grievous bodily harm and assault in Singapore - has turned himself in.

Singapore police said, in a statement, that the 35-year-old broker returned to Singapore on Thursday and was arrested upon arrival.

Dahlberg had been on the Interpol's wanted list.

He appeared in court yesterday to face charges for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and causing hurt with a rash act.

Dahlberg as charged with assault after he and two others, a Brit and an Australian, were involved in a street brawl outside Suntec City, a convention centre and shopping mall, in Singapore two years ago.

They were believed to be drunk and allegedly hijacked and crashed a taxi, with two passengers still inside.

The passengers, Paul Louis Kai Ming Liew, 27, a student, suffered a broken nose and a 6cm gash on his forehead and his friend Lawrence Wong, also suffered minor injuries.

If found guilty, Dahlberg could face up to 10 years in jail and caned.

The Australian, Nathan Robert Miller, 36, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three weeks jail in February.

Briton Robert James Springhall, 25, who fled with Dahlberg, is still on the run.

In a statement released by his family this afternoon, Dahlberg said he voluntarily returned to Singapore on Thursday, accompanied by his father.

"I return to co-operate fully with the Singapore authorities and abide by the due process of the case before the Singapore courts.

"I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to the Singapore Police whilst I was outside Singapore."

"I continue to extend my apologies to Mr Liew and offer to pay for Mr Liew's medical expenses."

"I hope my return will allow everyone involved to find closure."
