The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade say it is unlikely any New Zealanders were among the tourists on a plane that crashed today in Nepal.
The plane crashed while attempting to land at a mountain airstrip Jomsom located some 200 kilometres northwest of Katmandu on Thursday when it crashed on the banks of Kaligandaki river.
It was not clear if there were any casualties and the identity and nationalities of the passengers on board. The area is popular with foreign trekkers visiting the Mount Annapurna area and Hindu pilgrims visiting the revered Muktinath temple.
An MFAT spokesman told the Herald that the New Zealand High Commission in New Dehli was following up on reports of the crash.
"There's no information at this stage to indicate any New Zealanders are effected," he said.
