Kiwi tip-off leads to child porn arrest across the Tasman

A Sydney man has been arrested for allegedly disseminating more than 2500 images of child pornography, after a tip-off from New Zealand police.

The 27-year-old was arrested at his Redfern home on Tuesday afternoon.

New Zealand police had contacted the Crimes Squad's Child Exploitation internet Unit with information about the distribution of child abuse material.

Officers raided the Redfern home and seized a laptop computer allegedly containing child abuse material.

Police will allege more than 2500 images depicting child pornography were disseminated online during February and March this year.

The man is also accused of having online conversations relating to child sexual assault.

He has been charged with three counts of using a carriage service to transmit child pornography and one count each of possessing child pornography and disseminating child pornography material.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Redfern Local Court on April 17.
