Family and friends of a Kiwi teenager who died while on holiday in Samoa with her family are struggling to come to terms with her sudden death.
Taiana Pilitati, known as Tai, drowned when she was swept away while swimming in the Vaisigano River, which runs thorugh the island nation's capital Apia.
The 18-year-old from Wainuiomata near Wellington had travelled to Samoa with her mother and four sisters on Wednesday for the unveiling of a headstone for their late aunty.
Back home, extended family in Wellington were gathering to support each other.
