A GNS scientist is being helicoptered to Tauranga after being injured on remote Raoul Island, 1000km north of New Zealand.
He suffered chest injuries after falling while getting off a boat.
He was one of a six strong team from GNS Science who arrived on Raoul, part of the Kermadec Islands, two weeks ago to install tsunami and volcano warning systems.
The man spent the night at the island's medical facility and was in a stable condition, the Department of Conservation said.
The Phillips rescue helicopter flew to the island this morning and was expected back in Tauranga by mid-afternoon.
