The family of New Zealand cameraman Olaf Wiig are relieved their son is safe after being injured in Egypt riots
He is recovering from head injuries in a London hospital after fleeing a molotov cocktail while covering the riots for Fox News.
His father Roger Wiig said yesterday they had received news that their son was undergoing tests. "It's tough on the family."
Wiig and colleague Greg Palkot were covering the protests in Cairo.
In a firsthand account on FoxNews.com, Palkot described being targeted by protesters.
"They hit us with their open hands, their fists, sticks, bars, rocks, whatever was around, especially aiming at our heads. Blood was dripping off, our wounds were open," he said.
The pair escaped in an ambulance.
Wiig was previously married to New Zealand radio and TV reporter Anita McNaught.
In 2006 he was taken hostage in the Gaza Strip and released after 13 days.
