A New Zealand man has died after falling 30 metres from a crane at a construction site in Australia. Sonny Swaanenbeck, originally from Northland, was operating a pile driver in downtown Melbourne on Saturday when it malfunctioned and tipped over on to the ground.
Paramedics tried to save the 30-year-old but he died at the scene. Mr Swaanenbeck was the only son of Anne and Willy Te Wake who have flown to Melbourne to bring his body back to New Zealand this weekend.
