Children all over New Zealand are being asked to pick up their pencils, crayons and markers and help colour 75,000 beads - one for every treatment children with cancer face each year.
Kavahn Taumatauka, 6, and Claudia Little, 5, both fighting cancer, were busy colouring their own bead designs at Westfield St Lukes in Auckland yesterday.
Claudia has collected 199 beads since she was diagnosed in June.
She has finished her treatment plan, but still has to attend monthly check-ups.
Kavahn was diagnosed in October with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and has 130 beads.
The Beads of Courage programme recognises the bravery of children diagnosed with cancer, marking each stage of treatment and helping give meaning to the experience.
Each entry form in the "Colour of Courage" competition features 32 beads ready for colouring in and the best four will win a family prize.
This week the Child Cancer Foundation hopes to sell 75,000 beaded bracelets in its annual appeal.
