Kiwi ingenuity and a skilful use of tape and glue have helped to bring a rare kakapo chick into the world.
The chick - named Lisa One - has hatched on Whenua Hou, or Codfish Island, and is the first kakapo chick to hatch since 2011.
The news is doubly exciting, though, as there had been fears the chick wouldn't survive after the island's kakapo recovery team found the egg cracked in its nest last week.
Recovery programme manager Deidre Vercoe Scott said ranger Jo Ledington decided to try to give the chick the best chance of survival by fixing the egg with tape and glue.
Ms Vercoe Scott said: "It was touch and go for a few days, but with the special care and expertise of our team, the dedication paid off."
