KEY POINTS:
The role may have just a few lines of "yes, mamma" but the actress selected to play Bielke in a major production of Fiddler on the Roof in Auckland will perform alongside Broadway star Chaim Topol.
Producer Tim Lawson yesterday auditioned 20 girls for the role of Bielke, the youngest daughter of main character Tevye - played by Topol, famous for his rendition of the character on screen and stage.
Bielke is the sole role cast in New Zealand, as the previous actress needed to return to Australia.
Promoter Sally Woodfield said the role required a competent singer and dancer who could deliver several lines.
The successful performer has only a few weeks to prepare for the May 6 opening night.
The musical tells of Tevye, a dairyman, and his family in a small Jewish village in Russia in 1905.
