The karearea, or New Zealand falcon, has won New Zealand's Bird of the Year.
The falcon took 1255 of more than 10,000 votes in the Forest and Bird New Zealand's annual competition.
Forest and Bird announced the winner at 6.30pm.
The karearea, which adorns the New Zealand $20 note, are known for their aerial aerobatics and can reach 230kmh.
The kokako came second with 968 votes.
