KEY POINTS:
The driver of a tour bus that crashed in Westland, injuring many of the 44 passengers onboard, has been charged with dangerous driving.
But police have decided there are no ground to prosecute Kiwi Experience, the company operating the bus which drove off State Highway 6 and went 40m down a bank at Fox Hills, near Fox Glacier, on April 21.
"The bus was inspected and no contributing faults were found," said Constable Tony Le Sueur, of the Whataroa police.
The 32-year-old driver from Timaru will be summonsed to appear in the Whataroa District Court in September on one all-encompassing charge of dangerous driving causing injury.
"Although there has been previous speculation regarding the driver's blood alcohol content, a blood analysis found no alcohol present," Mr Le Sueur said.
Police said the driver and Kiwi Experience had been fully co-operative throughout their investigation.
Kiwi Experience had donated equipment to emergency services in Fox Glacier as thanks for the efforts in helping passengers in the crash.
