A New Zealander living in Indonesia was electrocuted in front of his wife and children while repairing the water pump on their home swimming pool.
Police are still investigating, but believe 56-year-old Wayne Exlinter was thrown into the side of the empty pool after touching a live cable.
The operations contractor for insulation contractor PT Atlantic died instantly at 3.15pm on April 6.
Exlinter lived in south Jakarta with his wife Minarti, 42, and their two children.
He changed his surname from Eglinton after converting to Islam to marry his Indonesian fiancee.
A newspaper report translated for the Herald on Sunday said the family's 39-year-old maid screamed for help after watching her employer die. Another said their 17-year-old daughter Silvi cried "Papa don't leave us" when his body was taken to a hospital in central Jakarta for a post-mortem examination.
His family was too distraught to comment to the Indonesian press.
Relatives from both sides of the family visited Exlinter's house to mourn his death and a wake was organised at the city's Club Azure.
Exlinter survived a scare last year after being misdiagnosed with a stomach ulcer. He travelled to Singapore to recover and was fighting fit before his death.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade had been contacted about Exlinter's death but was not required to help.
