A former Ashburton man has died in a South Korean hospital after falling from a building.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) confirmed they were aware of the death of a New Zealander in Korea, and consular staff from MFAT and the New Zealand Embassy in Seoul were providing support and assistance to the family.
It is understood members of the man's Mid Canterbury family travelled to Korea - where the man had been living and working - to be by his hospital bedside. He died early yesterday from his injuries.
The circumstances around the fall were unclear.
Tributes were flowing for the man on social media, and his family also took to social media to thank the staff of the Korean hospital which cared for him, and friends and colleagues in the community where he lived and worked.
