New Zealand police officers are being drawn to the warmth of Australia, as the force here battles through a budget freeze.
Forces across the Tasman are actively recruiting New Zealanders, and are offering plenty of sweeteners in the form of thicker pay packets, housing entitlements and paths to promotion.
Labour's police spokesman Kris Faafoi says the danger is a lot of our cops are seeing Australia as a better option.
He says many are turning up to seminars run by Australian police forces who are trying to steal our well-trained and professional officers.
Mr Faafoi says there is increasing pressure on front line New Zealand police as they and their bosses try to do much more, with much less.
