Kiwi comic gets serious about fundraising

Acclaimed Kiwi comedian Brendhan Lovegrove hits Wairarapa this weekend with a storm of laughs in aid of Martinborough Kindergarten.

Lovegrove is to stage his inaugural performance at King Street Live in Masterton on Friday night and on Saturday he plays the Martinborough Town Hall Proceeds from both shows will go towards a $16,000 safety surface for the Martinborough Kindergarten playground.

A kindergarten spokeswoman said the two shows are "all about raising money towards re-doing our safety surface outside in the playground, as this has deteriorated over time".

"This area is where we set up the large physical activities for the children so they have a soft fall surface to land on."

The cost to renew the safety surface is about $16,000, she said,

"We are trying hard to get this raised through this and other fundraisers by the end of the year or the beginning of next year."

Tickets for the Brendhan Lovegrove show at King Street Live from 8pm on Friday cost $25 each and are available from Masterton Musicworks, King Street Live, Martinborough Kindergarten and Martinborough Pain & Kershaw.

Tickets for the Martinborough Town Hall performance from 8.30pm on Saturday cost $40 and include supper and refreshments as well as a charity auction later in the night.
