Original Kiwi blues band Riverhead Slide will play for the first time in as guests of the Retro Club at King Street Live in Masterton.
Retro Club founder and Grafia band member "Dr Rob" Maunsell said the Auckland-based band were veteran darlings of the Kiwi jazz and blues festivals and were a welcome addition to the Retro Club line-up at King Street Live on March 7. Songwriter/vocalists Steve Wigz, and Gael Ludlow - an award-winning radio presenter and newsreader - front the five-piece "with their own brand of sexy originals and blues standards", according to the band biography.
The band also features Wigz and Nigel Major on slide and lead guitar respectively, and the rhythm section includes Murray Finer on bass and Pete Ludlow on drums.
The Grafia band guest musician for the evening is "Lenny T" Te Whare, Maunsell said, with guest vocalist Bex Johnson also set to share the spotlight on the night.
The band will stage its usual line-up that will feature the return of Lorenzo Buhne on bass and Jordan Tedray on drums and percussion, sharing the role with John Jukes.
