Alliance leader Jim Anderton hopes cabinet will sign off plans for his 'Kiwi Bank' proposal next Monday.
Mr Anderton has presented the business plan to Finance Minister Michael Cullen and SOE Minister Mark Burton.
He says the proposal is for 200 branches to be up and running by the end of the year, and that the plan will not cost the Government money.
Mr Anderton says the initial response from Dr Cullen has been favourable.
