PERTH - A Wanganui man and an Australian have been named as the two pilots killed when their helicopters collided in Western Australia's Kimberley region, police say.
Matthew Warrick William Funnell, 39, of Wanganui, and Troy Aarron Wareham, 37, of Yeeda Station, near Derby, died while aerial mustering at Springvale Station on Tuesday.
Sergeant Greg Lambert said five members of the Air Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) would arrive at the crash site on Wednesday afternoon to investigate.
WA police will conduct the investigation on behalf of the state coroner.
Mr Lambert said the two R22 helicopters had been mustering cattle, about 50km north of Halls Creek, when they apparently collided.
The wreck of the two helicopters were found about 16km south-east of the homestead.
Mr Lambert said the families of both men had been informed of their deaths.
