A New Zealand man accused of dragging a sex worker behind a moving van in a "horrific" attack in Canada is believed to have fled to North America after cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet while on home detention in Hawkes Bay.
Michael Edward Farley, 39, was arrested on Thursday in Vancouver, where authorities say he was working as a handyman and using the alias Robert Clarke.
Canadian media reported that Farley had been in the country for two years before the attack on the sex worker earlier this month.
It is not known how he managed to get into Canada.
The New Zealand Police website said Farley, who is wanted by Palmerston North Police for breaching home detention and attempting to pervert the course of justice, was "believed to be in the Hawkes Bay" area.
