Kitten clings to car for 7kms

A kitten hung on to the underside of a car for seven kilometres.

An Awanui woman drove from the seaside town to Kaitaia, not knowing the feline was stuck near the fuel tank yesterday.

Firefighters had to lift the car up with airbags to rescue the distressed kitten.

Station officer Craig Rogers said the woman noticed the cat only when she hopped out of the vehicle on Commerce St and heard meowing.

The kitten did not belong to the woman but passers-by found a home for it.
