Junior master chefs were in the making at a school holiday programme in Masterton yesterday.
Event supervisor Toni Hollow said 58 children had enjoyed swimming at the Genesis Energy pools in the town before getting creative in the kitchen to knock up pizzas and nachos. The juniors used sprinkles to decorate shaped pieces of "fairy bread".
The dishes and snacks were judged on presentation, creativity and tidiness in preparation before the competitors tucked in to their creations, she said, as an extra course for lunch.
The CLM Chill Out School Holiday Programme runs to the end of the month, and has attracted up to about 80 children - seniors and juniors - and the group were to spend a day at Castlepoint today. On Friday they will run through their paces at Rippa and touch rugby.
