Earlier this month she criticised poor monitoring by Child, Youth and Family after figures revealed more than 350 children and young people brought to the agency's attention have died since 2000.
She has urged all adults not to tolerate violence against children.
A Unicef league table published last December found New Zealand is failing to meet minimum standards on child poverty, infant mortality and infant immunisation rates.
Kiro declined to reveal her career plans.
