The saying that every vote counts rings true for Tracy Kirkley who has won a seat on the Henderson-Massey Local Board by one vote following a judicial recount.
The independent Mrs Kirkley was ahead of Labour candidate Chris Cooper by 15 notes on election day, only to discover she had lost the seat by 20 votes when the official results were declared nine days later.
"It was just too close," said the Te Atatu South resident, who applied for a judicial recount to bring certainty to the swinging votes.
In the recount, she dropped two votes from 6430 to 6428 but Mr Cooper dropped 23 votes from 6450 to 6427 leaving her with a one-vote majority.
Mrs Kirkley said she was pleased to be re-elected to the board and get back to work in her community.
