Twenty one years after shooting dead Deane Fuller-Sandys over allegations of a drug theft in West Auckland, Stephen Stone has admitted his guilt to the victim's family but says that he unable to tell them were the body is.
Stone was jailed for life in 1999 for murdering of Mr Fuller-Sandys and prostitute Leah Stephen to silence her after she witnessed the shooting.
He was also sentenced to a 10-year concurrent sentence for raping Ms Stephens before stabbing her in the stomach and slitting her throat.
The Sunday News reported today that Stone met the Fuller-Sandys family at a recent restorative justice meeting at Rimutaka Prison, north of Wellington, where he admitted the 1989 slaying of Mr Fuller-Sandys
But he could not say whether the burial site was as others disposed of the body.
Stone is seeking parole and was told by the Parole Board last year that if he wrote to his victims' families "acknowledging responsibility for the terrible crimes he committed" it would be a step nearer to gaining his freedom.
