Convicted murderer Clayton Weatherston remains in isolation at Christchurch Men's Prison.
The 33-year-old is awaiting sentence for the murder of Dunedin student Sophie Elliott.
He was moved into isolation on the day he entered prison after threats and taunts from fellow inmates.
It has since been reported a price had been put on Weatherston's head for his "long and painful death."
A source with contacts within the prison has said that the price is now up to $200,000. The source believes Weatherston may be kept in isolation for a few more months.
