Children and staff from Eketahuna School shared a rare experience last week when they attended the final health check of Pukaha Mt Bruce's first kiwi chick of the season at the national wildlife centre.
Department of Conservation ranger Josh Foster was with the chick named Kei Ahua Te Kaha.
The chick passed the fitness test with flying colours, being the first of the season's chicks to graduate from the chick nursery to the outdoor pre-release enclosure.
