Kidnapping reports prove unfounded

Police say reports of a kidnapping and abduction in the Christchurch suburb of Aranui proved to be incorrect.

Police received the callout to Gosport Rd in Aranui just after 12pm.

A child wandered off and the worried mother called police, believing her child to have been abducted, said a police spokesman.

The child has now been located and there was no kidnapping, he said.
