An Upper Hutt woman was allegedly kidnapped and forced to watch as her dog was shot in front of her.
The 20-year-old woman was exercising her crossbred dog Iwi in a Riverbank St park about 5pm on Tuesday when a man drove up in a car, pointed a sawn-off shotgun at her and ordered her and the dog into the vehicle, Detective John Fagan said.
They were then taken to an isolated part of the Akatarawa Cemetery, where the man loaded the gun and allegedly pointed it at the woman before shooting the dog.
The man later dropped the woman and dying dog off on Akatarawa Rd.
Mr Fagan said police were looking for Craig McKelvie, a 35-year-old European man from Wainuiomata.
