An alleged kidnapper who escaped custody last week by pretending to be another prisoner on bail was recaptured last night.
Ollies Siaea, 31, was remanded in custody after appearing in Manukau District Court on Friday charged with kidnapping a 24-year-old Cambodian man. An hour later, he pretended to be another prisoner, who he apparently bore a resemblance to, signed his bail bond and walked from the court.
Detective Senior Sergeant Pete Jones said Siaea was recaptured
without any trouble at an address in Otara, and would be appearing in the Manukau District Court tomorrow morning.
Siaea had changed his appearance and was arrested along with another man who appeared to be assisting him.
