KEY POINTS:
Terrible name, but the car looks pretty interesting.
Kia Motors has confirmed its so-called "segment-busting" small car will retain the badge of the concept car that inspired it - the Soul.
First seen as the SOUL concept car at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, concept developments then appeared at this year's Geneva Motor Show, which gave an indication of the different directions the car's design could take.
The three Geneva concept cars - the SOUL Burner, SOUL Diva and SOUL Searcher - were created by Kia's European design team led by Gregory Guillaume.
There was also input on the design aspects from Kia's chief design officer, Peter Schreyer.
The original SOUL concept was designed jointly by Kia's Californian and Korean design studios.
The production Soul will be unveiled at this year's Paris Motor Show.
Guillaume says: "Because the new Kia Soul is not a replacement for an existing vehicle and is destined to play a unique role within the Kia global line-up, it can be a bit of a rebel."
Production of the Soul will start in Korea in September, with exports due to start next year.
