KEY POINTS:
A Hamilton KFC worker was slashed in the face during an attempted robbery this morning.
Waikato district police communications manager Andrew McAlley said the woman victim was unlocking the door of the store on Grey St, Hamilton East, at around 8am when accosted by two men.
"One of them threatened her with a knife and demanded she open up. She dropped the keys and said she wasn't going to unlock the doors. The man then slashed her with the knife."
The men ran off.
The woman received a shallow cut to her cheek which police said could have been much worse as the blade was estimated to be about 10cm long.
Mr McAlley said the area was quite busy around that time of day and it was unlikely the pair had escaped unseen.
They were described as Maori, in their early 20s and were dressed in black hoodies, black jeans and white sneakers.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Hamilton police station.
