The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has set up an emergency phone line, 0800 USA 111 (0800 872-111), for those worried about relatives.

If you have contact details for relatives, or if you do get in touch with them, please call the number above so that embassy records can be updated.

The phone number for the United States Embassy in Wellington is (04) 472-2068, and a recorded message gives information. Both the embassy and the United States Consulate-General in Auckland are closed to all but emergency inquiries.

The American Airlines number in the United States is 0168 1800 245-0999 and their website address is www.aa.com

The United Airlines number is 0168 1800 932-8555, and their website is www.ual.com

Neither of these numbers is free.

If you think your United Airlines flight may have been affected, call (09) 379-3800. For information about flights UA93 and UA175 call 0800 445-432.

American Airlines flight information is available on (09) 309-9159 or on 0800 887-997 from outside Auckland.

Air NZ flight information: 0800 737-000.
